You are aware of the activities like reading, writing, learning, or walking that you are carrying out. But there are a number of activities that you are carrying out but are not aware of them. They are happening inside the body. These activities are carried out by body to keep us healthy and active. In this post you will learn some of them.
Human Body
Let’s know the human body structure before learning the internal activities of human body.
Formation of Human Body
Our body is made up of numerous cells but our journey of life has started with a single cell. We have grown in numerous cells by division of this single cell during fatal life. During fatal life along with division of cells, they are differentiated to different types of cells with specific characteristics and objectives. Collection of cells of same size, types and working for same objective are called “tissues”. Collection of tissues forms ‘organ’. By collection of organs with same characteristics and objective ‘system’ is formed.
Thus, Cell -> Tissue -> Organ -> systems -> Human body is formed.
Our body has transformed into trillions of cells from single cell and almost all organs and body systems are differentiated and developed before birth takes place. There after baby matures to its full within a short period of life time.
Major Systems of Body and their Functions

Major Organs
Main Functions
1.
Respiratory System
- Nose Pharynx
- Trachea
- Larynx

- To absorb oxygen from air.
- To release carbon dioxide into environment.
2.
Cardio Vascular
- Heart
- Arteries
- Veins
- Blood
- To keep blood circulated System throughout the body.
- Transports the nutrients and oxygen to all cells/ oxy-tissues/ organs of the body, through blood.
- Transports the waste products and carbon dioxide generated in the cells, tissues/ organs to kidneys, lungs for execution, through blood.
- To transport immunity cells and substance from their place of production
3.
Nervous System
- Brain
- Spinal cords
- Nerves
- To take messages like touch, temperature, pain, movement etc. from every corner of the body to brain.
- To control all voluntary activities e.g. movement or involuntary activities e.g. blood pressure, heart beats, digestion, perspiration etc.
- Thinking, memory, calculation, emotions etc.
4.
Digestive System
- Mouth
- Salivary glands
- Pharynx
- Oesophagus
- Stomach
- Small & Large intestine
- Liver
- Pancreas
- To transport hormones from endocrine from endocrine glands.
- To digest and nutrients like carbo hydrate, fats, protein, vitamins and mineral through foods so that body can get energy and health.
5.
Skeleton System
- 232 bones (long bones, small bones)
- It gives shape and structure to the body.
- Provides a protective hard bony (flat bones) coverage to internal organs.
- In coordination of muscles and joints, helps in movement.
6.
Muscle System
- More than 600 small muscles and large muscles (voluntary and involuntary)
- In coordination of bones and joints, helps in movement and activities like holding, writing, cooking etc.
7.
Endocrine System
- Pituitary gland
- Thyroid gland
- Parathyroid glands
- Adrenaline gland
- Testes
- Ovaries
- Hormones are released from these glands and transported through blood to their target organs for their specific functions.
8.
Immunity System
- Thymus
- White blood cells
- Includes Lymphocytes
- Lymph nodes
- Antibodies
- Spleen
- They fight against the harmful agents, which enter in the body. Thus, protects against diseases.
